This amazing Victorian garden was created by Darwin contemporary, Jams Bateman, as an extension of his beliefs and scientific interests.


His plant collection comes from all over the world – a visit takes you on a journey from an Italian terrace to an Egyptian pyramid, via a Himalayan glen and Chinese-inspired garden. We have a fabulous collection of rhododendrons, as well as a dahlia walk and the oldest surviving golden larch in Britain, brought from China by the great plant hunter Robert Fortune. There is also a woodland nature path and tours of the unrestored Geological Gallery. A garden for all season.

The Great Age of Victorian Gardening:
A walk around Biddulph Grange Garden, one of the most exciting survivals of the great age of Victorian gardening. From 1842, a wide variety of trees, shrubs and other plants from all over the world were placed amid rockwork, topiary, tree stumps and an extraordinary collection of unusual garden buildings.
 Duration 1 hour 30 minutes.
