For 43 years Knowsley Safari has been warmly welcoming visitors as one of the North West's main tourist attractions. Since those early days the safari park has evolved and adapted to change like the very animals we are known for. The early concept of a safari park in the 1970's was very new, the visitors were in their cages (cars) while the animals were roaming in large reserves. Today the safari drive has remained at the very heart of Knowsley Safari and is popular with the 500,000 visitors that drive around it each year. We place a lot of importance in connecting our visitors with the natural world, and when out on the safari drive it is the best opportunity for developing this.

The safari drive has seen many changes, but still has the firm favourites that people love to see again and again. At 5 miles long and covering 550 acres of beautiful countryside your safari navigates through large areas. Our lion reserve allows you to drive through, getting the best possible view of the pride which is even better for our elevated visitors traveling in coaches. Beyond the big cats you'll pass through herds of grazing antelope and deer before arriving at the famous troop of baboons.

The baboon wood has seen one of the biggest changes since opening in 1971. Due to their destructive nature and super strength we added a car friendly route for those not wishing to risk a journey through the monkeys. The car friendly route gives a fantastic view of the mischief going on inside.

One of Knowsley's proudest moments was the birth of our first female white rhino Binta, and since then the 'crash' of rhino have become one of the best breeding groups in Europe. You'll drive through the largest sections of the safari park and see the rhino residents Meru, Binta, Piglet, Winnie, Shaka the bull and all the calves. The rhino sections are also home to camel, zebra, ostrich and the ever impressive Eland, largest antelope in the world.

What makes Knowsey Safari stand out today is that we're more than a safari drive. To offer our visitors a full day out we include all the displays and talks in the admission, California sea lions and Flight of the Talons bird of prey display. Both present some of the world’s most incredible predators showing the adaptations that make them some of nature’s most efficient killers. The bird of prey display is like none other as you sit in our outdoor or indoor arena and the birds swoop inches from your head.

For fans of Africa's giants the giraffes and elephants can be observed from raised viewing platforms.  Recently added, the equatorial trail exhibits some of the world's rainforest species including the peculiar yet endearing Brazilian tapir. For an alternative view, why not get a ticket for the Equatorial Express, a miniature train that passes right through the Equatorial Trail. Keep a keen eye on the lake as the animals in this area are fond of water so may be taking a dip.

As well as the sea lion and bird of prey displays there are other indoor areas including the bug house, walk through bat forest and giraffe house.
If you're in need of exploring further afield, enjoy a walk around Fishbrook wood alongside the lake. Fishbrook wood is basecamp for bushcraft training on selected dates through the year and availability can be checked on the safari park website.

Further adventure can be found for younger visitors on the amusement rides, with the option for individual tickets or all access wristbands.
