The SS Shieldhall is a heritage steamship included in the National Historic Fleet. Operating as a charity and run by volunteers, Shieldhall operates a cruise programme between May and September, giving passengers an opportunity on all trips to visit the Engine and Boiler Rooms and meet the Captain on the Bridge. Commentaries are given on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and The Solent. Walk the teak decks or relax in the Saloon.


 SS Shieldhall announces 2017 sailing programme

SS Shieldhall are pleased to launch their 2017 sailing programme. Choose from 2 hr Family Cruises to all-day cruises on the Solent. Travel on Shieldhall and use her as a viewing platform to see the Bournemouth Air Festival or enjoy music cruises with the Shieldhall Stompers Jazz Band or RU40 tribute band. Sail in July when trips link in with the Hampshire Food Festival or support the ever popular Cowes Fireworks Excursion and one-way trips to Poole and back to Southampton. For 2017, Shieldhall will be sailing over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, linking in with the inaugural Southampton Sailing Week, whilst later sailings are scheduled to witness the spectacle of the Round the Island and Fastnet Races. Sailings will continue at intervals until mid-September, including two docks trips over the Heritage Open Days Weekend. 

Shieldhall is is the largest working steam ship in Britain. A member of the National Historic Fleet she serves as a sea going tribute to Britain's maritime heritage. As a passenger you can experience the golden age of steam - see the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and her volunteer crew; pass close to the great ocean liners and container ships; walk the teak decks; relax in the Saloon with a wide range of refreshments including tea / coffee; real ale; a range of Titanic bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips. Children will have fun with the interactive Shieldhall Log Book, collecting stickers from various stations on board, whilst there will be a number of deck games to play too!
