This Museum is located at the heart of Swansea's thriving marina. Housed in an original waterfront warehouse linked to a new, ultra-modern slate and glass building, the Museum explores the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the people and landscapes of Wales. It also shows the huge impact Welsh coal, steel and iron had on the rest of the world – and the influences of Welsh innovations today.

Museum Highlights

The museum shows off more than 300 years of Welsh industry and innovation. See how industry affected the way we used to live - be it individuals, groups or organisations - and have your eyes opened to the scale of Welsh maritime heritage. Imagery, film, words and spoken testimony bring the social history and impact of our industrial past to life.

Traditional displays of iconic objects sit side-by-side the latest sensory technology that responds to hand gestures for a truly interactive experience. You are invited to explore the collections using cutting-edge, interactive technology, allowing you to delve as deeply in to the exhibitions and displays as you wish.

Must see items on display include Robin Goch – one of the earliest examples of aircraft in the UK, Penydarren – a replica of the world’s first locomotive, and an impressive water-powered tilt-hammer as used in the Welsh steelworks from the 17th century.

Uncover the origins of our most popular and influential organisations and communities, from the Trade Unions, Miners Association and National Health Service to the Freemasons, Order of Foresters and Merched y Wawr.
