Barnsdale Gardens Win Gold

Barnsdale Gardens has won a coveted gold medal- the highest award possible- for its unusual stand at the Gardeners' World Live show in Birmingham.

Barnsdale's owner Nick Hamilton designed his floral display to celebrate the 21st birthday of the Geoff Hamilton’s New Gardener’s Foundation- a charity which was set up in memory of the great television gardener to help help students of horticulture, who would otherwise be unable to fund their own training. This takes the form of a bursary and the charity supports students at Writtle College, Essex; Garden Organic, Ryton; The Professional Gardener’s Guild and Barnsdale Gardens.

Nick's innovative design featured a collecting box in the form of a pair of his father's trademark gardening jeans, complete with muddy knees. Visitors to the show were invited to throw any spare change into Geoff’s trousers to help people hoping to take up horticulture as a career.
