Sporting Bears Dream Ride Event 2019

Families supported by local children’s charities were all in a spin when they were taken out in a range of classic and sports cars last weekend.

The Sporting Bears Dream Rides event saw the club of car enthusiasts offer families supported by Naomi House and Jacksplace Hospice, Julia’s House Hospice and Me2 Club the chance to enjoy the ride of a lifetime at Middle Wallop on Sunday. (14 July)

The event, which took place at the Army Flying Museum and the Army Air Corps airfield, saw club volunteers bringing along 40 vehicles including a Lamborghini, McLaren, GT40, AC Cobra, Nissan GTR, Chevy Belair, Corvette, Mini, Morgan, Mustang, Aston Martin, Lotus, Porsche, Noble and even a VW camper van.

The lucky passengers were taken on a 20 minute, ten mile circuit around the countryside. Event organiser Marcus Barr said: “We aim to make the day as inclusive as possible, and have the ability to hoist children into cars; we can take the whole family including, mum, dad and grandparents too.

“The Army Flying Museum provides a fantastic venue as the site is fully accessible and has great facilities. We are very grateful to the Army Flying Museum, the Army Air corps, and the Airfield Fire service for their invaluable support.

“It is wonderful to see the children and families having so much fun. This is one of the most popular events in our calendar with no shortage of volunteers to bring their cars, coming from all over the country to take part. There is nothing so rewarding as seeing such big smiles on the faces of everyone involved.”

Sara Crean, deputy play co-ordinator at Naomi House, said: “It’s lovely seeing all the smiles on the children’s faces as they come past in the cars. It’s a much loved day by all the families.”

Rachel Lawlor, a Me2 Club parent said; “We all want to say a big thank you for getting Me2 club children invited to this event. We all had a wonderful time and are still buzzing from going in the cars.”

Other comments from the message board at the end of the day included: “never seen my boy smile so much as he did today”, “awesome cars, fantastic drivers, great day”, “produced a smile like nothing else”, “you made our dreams come true” and “couldn’t stop smiling”.
