In the late 19th century, the unusually creative Messel family bought the Nymans Estate in the beautiful High Weald landscape of Sussex with the intention of making a dream country home.

Inspired by the setting and the soil, they created one of the country’s great gardens, with experimental designs and new plants from around the world. Nymans became a garden lovers’ house, and the Messels entertained family and friends, enjoyed relaxing and playing in the garden, and picnicking and walking in the woods. Partially destroyed by fire in 1947, the house and ruins sit within a romantic and picturesque setting.

Note: group bookings are taken for every day, all year round, except Sundays and Bank Holidays.
