MKCDC is an educational charity that works with schools, other educational bodies and foreign groups to teach about the history and creation of the new town of Milton Keynes. Milton Keynes started its journey to become one of the most daring and successful new towns in 1967, but its roots go much deeper…

History

Pre-History

How much is known about our Stone Age past? Where did we come from and how did our ancestors survive with primitive tools. Meet our resident Stone Age people, learn about cave paintings and leave your mark for people in years to come.

Romans

Are you brave enough to join the Roman Army? Have you got what it takes to devour a Roman Banquet? Think it would be fun to be a slave? Experience life as a Roman from both sides of the coin.

Anglo-Saxons & Vikings

Discover the magic of how our Norse, Danish and Germanic ancestors believed the world was made. Design and make your own Viking shield. Learn to write in Runes. Understand the importance of words to the Anglo-Saxons and why you can both spell and cast a spell!

Medieval

Life in the Middle Ages could be harsh, but what about life in a Medieval monastery? What were monks and what did they do? Go on a pilgrimage, find out how to scribe with a quill and how to make healing remedies for your brothers and those in need.

Tudors

Who were the Tudors and how did they come to rule? Perform a play about the battle of Bosworth and discover some of the ghastly punishments for those who break the law!

About Us

Inspired by the unique urban geography and rich heritage of Milton Keynes, MKCDC have a long track-record of educating at Key Stages 2, 3, 4, 5 (post-16) and beyond.

Visitors to MKCDC at Bradwell Abbey learn by walking the paths and inhabiting the spaces which have been used by local people for hundreds, even thousands of years. Through creative and cross-curricular learning we lead students to discover for themselves.
