The story of Welsh gold starts at Dolaucothi Gold Mines, set amid the wooded hillsides overlooking the beautiful Cothi Valley.

More than 2,000 years ago the Romans mined for gold here, and mining continued in the 19th and 20th centuries. The mine yard is preserved as it was in the 1930s, when gold mining ceased. Underground tours bring the harsh working conditions to life, and you can see and hear the 1930s mine machinery, have a go at gold panning and learn about Welsh gold. For a relaxing break, stay on at our caravan site opposite the gold mines.

Note: stout footwear essential for underground tours. We have a no-steps tour on level ground accessible for everyone.
