GCR Spring Diesel Gala Returns

The Great Central Railway (GCR) is proud to announce the return of its much-anticipated Spring Diesel Gala, set to take place from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27.

This extended weekend promises an unforgettable experience for diesel enthusiasts and families alike, offering the unique opportunity to ride behind both the impressive home fleet and distinguished visiting guest locomotives.

The Spring Diesel Gala will be the final chance to catch Class 20 D8001 at The Great Central Railway, before it returns south to the Epping and Ongar Railway.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to see Great Central Railway’s home fleet in action throughout the gala weekend, including Deltic 55019 ‘Royal Highland Fusilier’, and recently re-painted 37 714 ‘Cardiff Canton’, alongside up to five other locomotives and railcars.

There’s also a chance to experience driving Class 08-13101 at Quorn and Woodhouse Station during the weekend. Head to the Locomotive Cabs at Leicester North Station for a glimpse into the driver’s seat, too.

Visitors can anticipate an intensive timetable throughout the weekend, ensuring continuous action and a variety of locomotives in operation. There will be plenty of refreshments available too, including the launch of a brand new on-train bar - featuring up to four hand drawn ales or ciders alongside a variety of snacks, soft drinks and a wide selection of bottles. Loughborough Central will have a real ale bar open in the Waiting Room on the platform, too.

Whether you want to sample some beers on the BeerEx Train or treat yourself to a cup of tea and cake at one of the cafes – there’s something for everyone!
