Collon House was built in 1740 in the "Irish Longhouse" style, and was the home of John "Speaker" Foster, the last Speaker of the Irish House of Commons until its dissolution on the Act of Union in 1800. The house has recently been completely restored, winning the coveted An Taisce First Prize for conservation and restoration. The house contains finely decorated rooms with authentic period furniture and portraits, overlooking a sunken parterre box garden with luxurious herbaceous borders.
