A step aboard the Jeanie Johnston is a step towards understanding the daunting experience of the millions of people who crossed the Atlantic in the 19th century – the flight from poverty and famine, the pain of separation from family, the challenge of a 3,000 mile voyage, seeking survival and hope in the ‘New World’ of North America. Below deck, the celebrated guides lead the visitor through the dimly-lit quarters to show what it was like for those passengers.
