Known as the crossroads of Munster, Kilmallock has a colourful history dating back to its origins in the 12th Century. Kilmallock (Cill Mochealloig) was named after an early 7th Century Saint Mocheallog who founded a church on Kilmallock Hill. This heritage town of stone is described at ‘The Baalbek of Ireland’. Nearby Lough Gur is one of Ireland’s most important archaeological sites. Kilmallock Museum features scale models of previous stone houses and the medieval town.
