Thirlestane Castle, Lauder is one of Scotland’s oldest and finest inhabited castles. It was built in the 16th century to defend the approach to Edinburgh from the south and is still home to the Maitland family today. Highlights include the richly ornate State Rooms with their exquisite plasterwork ceilings and the bedroom where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed. Thirlestane is open 28th April to 3rd October 2019.
