The towering ruins of this vast abbey complex are testament to the power of both royalty and the medieval church. Founded by David I in 1138, the abbey was linked to a nearby royal castle. The abbey museum houses many precious artefacts including an ivory comb from the 1100s that shows Hercules slaying a dragon.
