Newcastle University's Hatton Gallery has been at the heart of the cultural life in the North East since the early 20th century. Having recently undergone a #3.8 million redevelopment, the art gallery stages a free programme of modern and contemporary art exhibitions, and events including artist and curator talks and family activities. They work closely with students from Newcastle University and exhibit their work on an annual basis and house the iconic Merz Barn Wall by Kurt Schwitters, one of the most significant figures in 20th century art.
