St Nicholas is the Cathedral for the Church of England Diocese of Newcastle, which stretches from the Tyne to the Tweed. As the seat of the Bishop of Newcastle, the Cathedral exists to support the Bishop’s mission, and teaching and pastoral ministry, across the diocese.

The Cathedral is a place of prayer, spirituality and service at the heart of the regional capital of the North East of England.

Prayer and worship are offered here daily, just as they have been on this site for over 900 years.

It is the focus for great Diocesan celebrations and civic services, as well as a place of quiet serenity set amid the busyness of a vibrant city. It is the spiritual home of a caring, worshipping community.

Donations go towards the Cathedral’s mission which includes worship, music, education and allowing free access to over 200,000 people per year.

The Lantern Café

An oasis of calm in the heart of the busy city, The Lantern Café offers a range of home-made food including breakfasts, lunches, light bites, cakes and scones.
