At Quarry Bank at Styal you can discover the compelling story of mill workers, entrepreneurs and the Industrial Revolution.
There are hand-spinners working, the clatter of machinery and the hiss of steam engines – we also have Europe’s most powerful working waterwheel. Guided tours t Apprentice House, which housed the pauper children who worked in the mill. In the stunning garden, you can follow our progress with our Upper Garden Project. Nearby Styal village, built by the Gregs to house the mill workers, is still a thriving community.
There are also woodland walks along the beautiful River Bollin.
Note: allow 1½ hours minimum to visit mill, 2½ hours to visit mill and Apprentice House, or mill and garden. Shuttle bus transfer from car park available for visitors with limited mobility – advance notice advised. Visits to the Apprentice House are by timed guided tour only on a limited basis, therefore we may not be able to offer a booked tour. No groups on Bank Holidays. Apprentice House tours cannot be booked on Sundays.

Garden Tour
Discover the story of Quarry Bank garden, a unique example of the Victorian picturesque style of landscape design. Enjoy formal planting, terraces, rhododendrons and azaleas all set below dramatic sandstone cliffs. Admire the spectacular view of the mill from the top and see our progress in the Upper Garden.
