It’s hardly surprising that the colourful Victorian Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, fell in love with Hughenden. This handsome home with fine views and woodland walks is still the perfect place to relax and unwind today.

This hillside hideaway was HQ for a top-secret operation during the Second World War that put Hughenden high on Hitler’s hit list. A replica air-raid shelter, 1940s living room and ice house bring wartime Britain to life. With red kites soaring over ancient woods and views over rolling parkland set in a timeless Chiltern valley, Hughenden is a truly magical place.

Note: certain rooms have little electric light. Visitors wishing to make a close study of the interior of the house should avoid dull days early and late in the season.
