Picturesque Lacock village, by the banks of the River Avon, is often seen in films. At its heart is Lacock Abbey, with its tranquil, golden cloisters and medieval nunnery rooms.

Now a quirky country home with 800 years of history and architectural changes, the Abbey has a relaxed, lived-in feel. Above the cloisters entrance is the famous window where photographic pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot created the first negative. The Fox Talbot Museum celebrates the invention of photography and offers unique topical exhibitions set within the timber-framed gallery.

Note: picnic area with tables in the pound ‘paddock’ opposite visitor reception. Picnics in Abbey grounds from April to October. Maximum four groups per day.
