Located at the gateway to the South Wales Valleys, the attractions in World Heritage Site tell the story of the town which was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Start your journey at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre to find out why the area was the perfect location for the Iron industry to thrive. Venture 300 feet below ground at the Big Pit National Coal Museum; see the remains of the blast furnaces at Blaenavon Ironworks, where BBC Coalhouse was filmed; view the Industrial Landscape from a carriage of a train on the Blaenavon Heritage Railway; or sample some of the local beer at Rhymney Brewery.

One day tour

10:00am
Arrive at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre. Visit the interactive exhibitions to find out about the history and heritage of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. The centre has a Tourist Information Centre, Gift Shop and Café.
11:00am
Short 3 minute journey to the Blaenavon Ironworks. Built in 1789, you can view the extensive remains of the blast furnaces, cast houses and water balance tower. See the new interactive experience. Gift shop.
12:30pm
Short 3 minute journey to the Big Pit: National Coal Museum. Visitors can experience tours with real miners and venture 300 feet below ground. Café and gift shop.
3:30pm
Depart Blaenavon World Heritage Site.


Two day tour

Day One

10:00am
Arrive at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre . Visit the interactive exhibitions to find out about the history and heritage of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. The centre has a Tourist Information Centre, Gift Shop and Café.
11:00am
Short 5 minute journey to the Blaenavon Heritage Railway. Enjoy a train ride through the Industrial Landscape, taking in the spectacular scenery. Café and Gift shop.
12:30pm
Arrive at Big Pit: National Coal Museum by train. Lunch stop followed by tour. Visitors can experience tours with real miners and venture 300 feet below ground. Café and gift shop.
4:00pm
Depart Blaenavon for 4* hotel.
4:30pm
Arrive at hotel for dinner and overnight .

Day Two

10:00am
Depart hotel for the Blaenavon World Heritage Site.
10:30am
Arrive at Blaenavon Ironworks. Built in 1789, you can view the extensive remains of the blast furnaces, cast houses and water balance tower. See the new interactive experience. Gift shop.
12:30pm
Arrive at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre. Lunch stop – café and picnic areas available.
1:30pm
Arrive at Rhymney Brewery. Learn about the history of beer and brewing in the Welsh valleys. See how the local beer is produced in the factory, sample some of the beers before choosing your favourite to purchase in the gift shop and take home!
3:00pm
Depart Blaenavon World Heritage Site.

NB: Blaenavon Heritage Railway currently run from Easter-end September, weekends only; and Wednesdays during August. Discounted rate for groups.
